Conference Theme: “Borders and margins” – At IPSA, Brisbane, Australia

Conference summary:

This summary captures a five-days conference on the theme of ‘Borders and Margins’ organized by International Political science Association (IPSA) held at Brisbane, Australia on 21-25/07/2018. The conference program was configured properly with panel schedule. Panles began on Sunday July 21, 2018 at 11:00 am and ended on the Wednesday July 25, 2018 at 07:15 pm. All panels took place at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC), located at the corner of Merivale & Glenelg Streets, South bank, Brisbane, QLD, Australia. This conference brought together political scientists, academic and non-academic researchers, and scholars of political science from all over the world.

The central theme of IPSA world congress was ‘ Borders and Margins’ which was certainly an appropriate theme in recent time but it was not limited to the main caption of the theme. The Conference panels also squeezed over general issues of democratic transition, election processes, international politics, and political economies of major powers too. From discussion of panels it was assessed that most of socities are becoming more proactive of their borders , even those socities who were built by immigrants, no longer welcome them. The border of democracy apears to be narrowing down in the face of populist challenges in even the most established democracies of the world. People at the margin of socities and states in the margins of the world system are revolting, clamoring for a greater voice in the politics of their socities and in the global systems. Borders continue to constitute a major cause for conflict among the states. General panels dicussed the democratic transition of US, Australia and other western countries, Election processes, the governmental structure and roles of political parties etc. similarly, few panels enlighted and explicated the international politics of major powers such as US, China, Japan, India, European states, and Russia. The most significant was the panel of political economy in which, most of the major economic states were discussed but China was a key state for that panel. In that panel, most of the research papers raised a core questions on current chinas economy growth and sustainable development process, BRI plan and manufacturing etc.

Further, main event of the congress include on following four plenary session while other panles schedule was segregated by session type. The plenary session include: (Ps.01)-Australia’s democratic innovations held on Sunday, July 22; (Ps. 02)- The future of human rights in an era of narrow nationalism: the margin of cross broder concern and action held on Monday July 23; (Ps. 03)- President’s plenary: challanging the borders of liberal and Democracy: The global rise of populism held on Tuesday July 24; Patriarchy is bigger than Donald Trump held on Wednesday July 25, 2018. There were also few special panels organized for spanish languge too. These panels were codified under the codes (SS.01 to SS. 01).

As for as concerning to my contribution in IPSA world congress, I have presented my research paper in the panel of “ OCIS04.08: The International Political Economy of Asia Pacific” held on Wednesday, july 25, 2018. My research paper was entitled “China’s Energy Driven Initiative with Iran: Implications for the United States.” This paper is based on an optimistic and postive-sum approach about China’s and Iran energy relationships and US implications for it. Ultimately, all the panels members attended the fairwell ceremony of the IPSA congress in which few awards and certificates were distributed. Formally, conference came to an end on Wednesday, July 25, 2018.
